WITH the winter Tag Rugby season now into its second week, the cold weather and rain hasn’t deterred the players as four of the six winter league venues are running at full capacity and there is plenty of exciting action taking place on the pitch.

Besides the winter weeknight leagues, excitement is building amongst the UK Tag Rugby community as Try Tag Rugby’s first one day tournament of the year – the annual Wasps Tag Rugby Festival held in Acton on Saturday 5th April – will be televised.

An Irish TV series will be filming at the 2014 Wasps Tag Rugby Festival and will be featured on Setanta Sports in Ireland later in the year. The series focuses on a group of young adults, all early school leavers. Over ten weeks the group are challenged in the classroom through a sports literacy programme and on the sports field as they attempt to form a competitive Tag Rugby team.

The series will culminate in the young team entering the 2014 Wasps Tag Rugby Festival. Ex-Irish rugby star, Alan Quinlan is coaching the team with assistance from Rosie Foley.

The 2013 Wasps Tag Rugby Festival attracted a record 23 team entries including some guest teams from Ireland with London’s Chargers claiming back to back titles. Can they get the hat trick in 2014?

The festival which takes place at London Wasps RFC’s fantastic training grounds in Acton will feature Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield divisions, providing all teams something to play for in the knockout stages.

Team and individual registrations for the 2014 Wasps Tag Rugby Festival are now open on the Try Tag Rugby website if you would like to get involved. Link: http://www.trytagrugby.com/news/2013-12-16/wasps-tag-rugby-festival-april-5th/

In other news, the UK’s elite Tag Rugby players have plenty to look forward to this year with a massive representative schedule coming up. Great Britain will take on the might of the two largest Tag Rugby playing nations in the world – Australia and Ireland – in a tri series on Friday, 11th July in Limerick. The London Residents representative team (open to any player residing in London) will take on Australia whilst Great Britain take on Ireland in London on Saturday, 19th July. Trial details will be released soon.

Try Tag Rugby would like to take this opportunity to thank Australian Times who will be going into a 5th year as media partner. The UK Tag Rugby community thank you for your ongoing support.

If you’re an Aussie new to London, getting involved in Tag Rugby will give you the opportunity to make a heap of new friends, keep fit and have fun! We hope to welcome you to a Tag Rugby pitch soon.
